Following initial results in Colorado, Maryland, New York, and Florida ballot measure campaigns, Nourbese Flint, President of All* In Action Fund, released the following statement:
Tonight’s ballot measure victories in Colorado, New York, Missouri, and Maryland make it clear that the majority of voters support access to abortion and oppose politicians interfering with our lives and decisions.
Colorado’s win tonight is a testament to the power of women of color organizers and activists across the state who worked tirelessly to achieve this victory. We’ve long known that the majority of Americans agree that no one should be denied insurance coverage for abortion just because they’re working to make ends meet. We applaud the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR) for leading the charge and ensuring that Coloradans and their families have access to the abortion care they need, when they need it, without politicians getting in the way.
While we are disappointed with the Florida ballot measure election results not meeting the 60% threshold, we still saw the majority of Floridians voting in support of abortion access. This outcome is a direct result of anti-democratic tactics designed to undermine the will of the people and Floridians’ access to life-saving medical care. We thank the organizers and our partners in Florida who worked tirelessly for months on this campaign. We will continue to fight to create a future where abortion justice is possible, and no one is left behind.
